make Do With Now
I created this poster as a visual statement for the exhibition Make Do With Now, which explores contemporary Japanese architecture and its forward-looking, resourceful spirit. The central graphic—an abstract architectural structure—represents both a physical and conceptual space where ideas take shape, evolve, and push against boundaries. The structure is a layered, almost theatrical cutaway, referencing both the exhibition venue—the Teatro dell’Architettura Mendrisio—and the metaphorical layers of innovation and adaptation inherent in Japanese design. Bright, contrasting colors and bold typography are used to energize the viewer and evoke the interplay between tradition and futurism. Key phrases like “MAKE DO WITH NOW,” “NEW DIRECTIONS,” and “ARCHITECTURE” are scattered across the visual plane, challenging the viewer to read and interpret from multiple angles—much like how we must reconsider and adapt our architectural practices today. The use of Japanese (日本の建築 meaning "Japanese architecture") and Italian texts highlights the cross-cultural dialogue central to the exhibition.
